MISSION VIEJO – Capistrano Valley quarterback Dartanyon Moussiaux hasn’t received any college offers, but his performance Friday night should change that.

The senior completed 31 of 43 passes for 413 yards and six touchdowns while leading Capistrano Valley to a 42-28 victory over host Trabuco Hills in a Sea View League game on Friday night.

“It’s crazy,” Capistrano Valley coach Sean Curtis said of the lack of attention Moussiaux is getting from colleges. “I don’t have any explanation for it. I know he has had a lot of schools interested. He needed this season to show the jump that he made in the offseason. We had a great nine months together of just getting in the film room and showing how to improve from last year and he just took every coaching point and soaked it up.”

Moussiaux connected with Justin Richardson and Dane Benedix for two touchdowns each. Richardson caught nine passes for 113 yards while Benedix caught six passes for 104 yards as the Cougars improved to 2-2 overall, 2-0 in league.

The stats were almost matched by Trabuco Hills (2-2, 1-1) as quarterback Jaxon Smeler was 22 of 37 passing for 334 yards with four touchdowns, but he also had three interceptions. Jack Holland caught 11 passes for 143 yards with three scores for the Mustangs.

Up 42-14 in the fourth quarter, Capistrano Valley went with their second-string defense, which the Mustangs took advantage of with a 78-yard touchdown pass to Holland and a 63-yard touchdown catch by Chris Padilla to cut the Cougars’ lead to 14.

“It wasn’t concerned,” Moussiaux said. “I have faith in all of our guys. Once I got out, I saw my guys go in and I knew our guys can keep the same composure to go out there and still win.”

Owen Taylor caught seven passes for 94 yards with a score for Capo Valley while Drew Bennett rushed for 40 yards on 14 carries and returned three kicks for 124 yards for the Mustangs.

Trabuco Hills will take on El Toro on Friday, April 16 at home. The Cougars will host Aliso Niguel the same night with the Sea View League title on the line.

“We’re going to practice hard all week,” Richardson said. “We’re going to work together. Our offense is going to ball out and our defense is going to stop them. It’s going to be a great game and we’re going to win.”
